This coffee comes from the Southern Province in southern Rwanda. Around 750 smallholder farmers from the region deliver their cherries to the Kinazi Washing Station, which was founded in 2016 by Abdul Rudahunga. Inspired by his grandmother's passion for coffee cultivation and roasting, he pursues a clear focus on quality and careful processing at the station. Like the neighbouring Simbi Station, Kinazi has already attracted attention at Rwanda's Cup of Excellence competitions.
During the harvest season from March to June, the ripe Bourbon cherries are hand-picked and brought to the station. After sorting, they are dried as naturals on raised drying beds in the sun. During this phase, the cherries are regularly turned to ensure even drying and the development of a clear, balanced flavour profile.
Rwanda has increasingly established itself as a source of high-quality speciality coffees in recent years. Investments in infrastructure, quality control and training have contributed to the fact that coffees from regions such as the hills of the Southern Province are now valued worldwide.
