Pamwamba coffee originates from the southern Thyolo District of Malawi, first planted in 1979. The elevation ranges between 920 and 1,100 meters. The terrain consists of rolling valleys with steep slopes and native forest that remains between the coffee fields. The soils are a mixture of dolerite clay and alluvial soils and are very fertile. The local cooperative operates a rotation program in which each field is cleared and replanted every seven to eight years, ensuring they always harvest from young coffee that is largely free of disease.
