The coffee from the Turaco microlots comes from the north-central Ngozi province in Burundi, one of the country's most important coffee-growing regions. Located at an altitude of 1,600 to 1,900 meters, the region's temperate climate and fertile soils provide ideal conditions for growing Bourbon Arabica beans. The coffee cherries are harvested by smallholder farmers who cultivate an average of only 0.3 hectares of land. After harvesting, the beans are carefully processed in selected washing stations. The washed processing includes pulping, fermentation in water for 12 to 24 hours, and subsequent drying on raised beds for approximately 20 days. This method emphasizes the clarity and complexity of the coffee. The coffee is named after the colorful Turaco bird, which is native to Burundi and known for its vibrant colors.
