4 tricks to keep your coffee fresh longer

4 Tricks, damit dein Kaffee länger frisch bleibt

There's nothing like a freshly roasted coffee, prepared and enjoyed during peak flavor! But you don't always use up the coffee you buy at home quickly enough to avoid losing some of its flavor.

Buying a coffee and then consuming it after four weeks is no problem, but what about 12 weeks or opened bags? How quickly should you consume your coffee once it's opened, and are there tricks that help keep the beans fresher longer, both in the closed and opened bags?

In this article we will tell you what is important when storing coffee!

If you've followed the first three tips, you should be able to enjoy your coffee for a few weeks. However, if you need to keep it fresh for an even longer period of time, perhaps because you're going on a long vacation, drink very little coffee, or just couldn't resist buying coffee, there's one more tip.

1. Buy fresh produce regularly rather than in bulk

First things first: in most cases, freshly roasted coffee reaches its peak flavor after about two weeks. This time can vary depending on the roast and the coffee, but two weeks is a good guideline.

The rough recommendation is to consume the coffee within 3 months of roasting. Ideally, between 2 and 6 weeks after roasting.

Those who buy coffee in bulk should therefore consider whether they will actually use up these large quantities quickly. Alternatively, however, we recommend purchasing smaller quantities regularly from your favorite roaster. We deliberately sell our coffee in 250g bags so you have a chance to use up the coffee before its flavor deteriorates.

2. Pay attention to the details of the coffee bags

Zippers and aroma valves are industry standards that give you an initial indication of quality, but are also extremely important for coffee storage. The valves, which are attached to our coffee bags, for example, only allow air to pass through one side, from the inside to the outside. This allows excess CO2 to escape, but prevents ambient air from entering. Coffee bags are also light-tight, so you should store your coffee in a dark place.

3. Close and store the coffee bags properly

When you remove your coffee beans from the bag, always squeeze out any air before closing it. Ideally, you should use the integrated zipper to ensure it remains truly airtight.

You should also store coffee in a dry place.

4. Long-term relationship: into the freezer

Last but not least, you can also freeze your coffee for storage. However, this should always be the last resort. However, if, for example, you received too much coffee at once as a gift and already know you won't be using it for the next 2-3 months, you can resort to this method.

There are a few rules to follow:

  • Portion the coffee as you plan to use it
  • Seal the coffee portions airtight, ideally vacuum-sealed
  • Give the coffee a chance to return to room temperature before use

We hope you enjoy your coffee!
